More concrete, this time in Manchester with a little foray into Salford too.
Located between Deansgate and the River Irwell the site now known as the Renaissance Hotel was built in 1972 by Cruickshaw and Steward. Part of the concrete cityscape first envisioned in the 'City of Manchester Plan 1945' the office block connected Black Frairs to Cross Street through raised walkways that were joined in 1975 by the Arndale Centre. Took a few photos of the site's exterior, walking around from the end of Deansgate to the now largely forgotten-about Irwell side. The building seems to have turned it's back on the water, with only grimey car park access and some sparse seating noticeable at ground level. No Pokemon round there.
The Renaissance site has been earmarked for redevelopment for a while now, various plans mooted but nothing's happened so far. This thread on Skyscraper City has details of the latest updates. This feature has some great photography of other sites around Manchester
A few other buildings of concrete note are dotted around the area...
The photos below are of the 1970s additions to Dial House [ great feature by Jonathan Schofield on it here ]
